Brazil to Win the World Cup in 2014

Rio, Brasil – So these guys won another international trophy.  The first one since Copa America in 2007.  That is a long time waiting for a team like Brasil.  The Confederations Cup 2013 was probably one of the best iterations of this tournament ever.  It was well contested with great teams of World Cup caliber.  Brasil has again set the true standard of excellence in futbol.

By Brasil standards, this team has waited way too long to retain its glory.  Its finesse, its fervor, and really its determinate strikes were on display again.  That is how Ronaldo, Pele, Jairzinho, and Romario crafted their game, nothing less.  A thing of beauty.  The way the Confed Finals was played was perfect execution, ready to pounce on Spain’s only known weakness.  The Tik-Tak has been broken, it will be fascinating to see how the rest of Europe approaches Barca in the coming season.  However, let’s not get ahead of myself just yet.  It is after all just one tournament.  The real one starts in 11 months (can’t wait!).

So who will compete with the Selecao?   Top contenders from Europe include Germany and Italy, but remember Spain is the only team who won the World Cup outside of their continent (Asia excluded, but the way Korea played in 2002, it was their World Cup win).  Germany and Italy are not strong enough to compete.  Spain has had its time, 4 in a row?  Lo siento. So that leaves the 3 South American teams that can really contend.  Colombia, Argentina, and Brasil.  Colombia is a dark horse, enough said.  Argentina will only win if Messi plays the way he does with Barca.  But he will likely not unless the Argentinians can find Messi a system or players to make it compatible for Messi.  Brasil looks strong now, with the home crowd, one more year of building confidence and excellence, they will be the favorites going into the Finals.

My Surprise Team next year: Uruguay. (40-1) though!
